The Greek Holiday: Postcards from Kos

Some moments are so beautiful you want to capture them and save them for the future, store them in a see-through bottle like a tiny model ship. We’ve had many of those during this holiday: sunny moments of happiness that we carefully press into our memories, to be admired on cold winter days.

The velvet season has already passed  – the days are warm, but the strong winds, typical for the islands, mean you need a jacket as soon as the warming sun has disappeared behind the mountains. We don’t really mind, however, as we have still managed to swim every day. The other day we spent a whole hour in the sea, swimming out to a faraway rock and only turning back when our feet got tangled in seaweed.

Most of our time here has been spent by the hotel’s infinity pool, even more beautiful in real life than in photos. During the hottest time of the day, and in the evenings, we sit in a shade on our balcony, taking in the view opening up in front of us: the pool, the sea, and the Greek sky, all bluer than blue.

It’s indescribably beautiful – we could not think of a better way to celebrate our 10th anniversary.

  1. Wow sounds like you’re having a wonderful break. Our anniversary is new years eve/new years day (depending on how you view midnight!) so we always spend ours surrounded by other people. Must be lovely to have it just the two of you.

    1. Thank you, Emma – It has been absolutely lovely here, we’re so happy we came! Ah, I can see why that might get a bit annoying, although on the plus side NYE is a super romantic time AND you’re more likely to have the evening off. Do you usually have another celebration a few days later, just you two?

  2. What a crazy beautiful place! I hooe to get there some day since I don’t feel that I get enough of that kind of atmosphere in my life. Lovely photos!

    1. Thanks so much Jessica! I know that feeling – we’ve now decided we definitely need to do these things more often. It’s so relaxing!

    1. Kos is SO beautiful – I can definitely recommend it! It’s a great base for day trips too, so you could easily explore more of Greece if you wanted to. It’s actually not that expensive: We splurged on a five-star hotel as it was a special occasion, but there are plenty of budget-friendly hotels around. The timing is also important: as we traveled outside of the main tourist season, we ended up paying less for our hotel than we would have for many three-star ones a couple of months earlier. Let me know if you decide to go! 🙂

  3. These are some stunning pictures, I now need to book my trip to Greece! I hear Kos is a beautiful island and it sure looks it 🙂

  4. Your photos are absolutely beautiful! I hope you had a wonderful anniversary. Kos looks beautiful and a place I hope to visit one day
